Do more with Tabs using Custom URLs

We recently added a small but hugely powerful new feature to our Tab Manager page. You can now create 'Custom URL' tabs to link to deeper pages of your group, or to external websites.

There are various ways you could use this new tab. Try linking a tab to your group's Facebook page or Twitter account to start, but you can then explore having a tab link to particular Forum categories,  a featured Event, a particular Photo album and so on.

Don't forget that the Tab Manager page already allows you to link to the main sections of your site, and we're also hoping to create more tab types in the future to handle linking to photo albums and forum categories in a much simpler way, but for now, have a play with the Custom URL tab.

See some examples of possible Custom URL tabs below:

Facebook Tab

Visit your Facebook page and copy the web address from the address bar.

Paste the address into the 'Custom URL' box on the 'Tabs' page.

You can then change the text that will appear on the tab by clicking the pencil icon in the list on the left of the page.

Forum Category Tab

You could use the Custom URL tab to link to a particular forum category, so you can have tabs linking directly to those to simulate having 2 distinct forums.

Navigate to a particular category that you'd like to link to directly, then copy the URL (web address) from the address bar into a new Custom URL tab. Don't forget to change the name of the tab after you create it, to choose what will display on your group's tab bar.

Featured Event Tab

You could also have a tab link directly to a specific page on your site, such as one particular event. Try visiting an event page you want to feature, copy the URL (web address) for that page into the Custom URL box and save it, then name the tab 'Featured Event' or similar. You can add a new tab and delete the old one any time you want to change the featured event.
